Create Templates

Create any type of document you need, with fully customizable templates and your own branding. The only limit is your imagination.

Create your own template

Feel free to create your own template from scratch or customize one of your existing business documents, such as quotes, invoices, reports and the like. Either way, all templates must be in Microsoft Word format (.docx).

How does it work?

1. Create a .docx file.

2. Board Level or Item Level?

Decide on what kind of information you want to output in your document (this determines the kind of placeholders you will need to use in the next step):

Board LevelItem Level

The entire board or specific columns will be output as a table, including all items. Possible use cases: project report, charts, timesheet, tasks, product/service list, lead pipeline, …

The information of a single or several items from your monday board can be included in the document.

Possible use cases: contract, proposal, agreement, certificate, invoice, letter, …

3. Insert placeholders

Insert placeholders where you want to include data from your monday boards in your document. You can retrieve general information by adding placeholders within two curly braces.

Examples:

{{User.name}} – Name of monday user {{Board.name}} – Name of monday board

Board Level*Item Level

To include the information from specific columns of your monday board in a table, a placeholder consists of the column title within two curly braces:

{{ColumnTitle}} Examples:

{{Status}} – outputs the status column for all items in a board {{Due Date}} – lists the due dates of all items in a board

*Please note: If you want to generate a document for a board including all items, you have to use Microsoft Merge tables. To the instructions: Board Level Template

To retrieve the value from a specific item (row) in your board, the placeholder consists of the prefix “Item.” and the column title within two curly braces:

{{Item.ColumnTitle}}

Examples:

{{Item.Status}} – data from an item’s status column {{Item.Due Date}} – an item’s due date

As an alternative to creating your own document, you can choose a template from our free Template Gallery as a starting point for your customizations. We created a choice of ready-to-use Microsoft Word (.docx) templates that you can download and adapt to your needs.

Use your own branding

In addition to the data you want to display, you can also customize the design of the template. To make these adjustments, you can simply use all the functions that Microsoft Word offers.

Here are some examples:

  • Insert your own logo (Please note that the DocExport logo is positioned in the header of the document, so you need to double click to edit.)

  • Add your company details to the footer

  • Change font, font size, spacing, etc.

  • Insert images

  • Add/change text
